If you could write your own perfect obituary what would it say? We focus on all the nice things that we want to hear to massage our ego. Maybe we would love to say that we are kind to animals or that we have been a good father. We would love to write down how we’ve supported our family and friends or maybe how generous we are with our hard earned cash.
These are all great positive emotions that we want to be remembered for, it’s our legacy that will live long after we are not here, but is it true? Are we creating the right image?
Now be totally honest with yourself and write down how the world will remember you, if at all. Will you stand out from the crowd as a positive influence or will you be forgotten as quickly as eating your favourite tasty treat. The pleasure you get from eating a cream cake, becomes a distant memory soon after you have finished your last morsel. Is that enough?
We focus our attention on what we believe to be true, being authentic to ourselves and although we should live our lives for ourselves rather than others, how insular do we want to be? How would you feel if you never left your mark on the world in some way?
The conflict we impose on our self is the difference between our perception and our reality.The good thing is, we have time to change the picture we paint on the world. We can draw a landscape that suits us a person and how we want to be remembered.
