If you study a pane of glass on a rainy day, you’ll notice that water rarely travels in a straight line, but it follows the path of least resistance. If that is true for nature then why can’t it be true for business? Surely life gets easier if we associate ourselves with people that aren’t resistant to our goals and are on the same wavelength.
Should we try to help any client that tempts us with payment or should we be more selective? Although I believe that we can help most people, often there is conflict between feeding your bank balance and remaining authentic. Following the money is a quick fix whereas following your belief attracts wealth. I believe that we should remain true to ourselves, focusing on our original values and purpose. We should remember what we stand for and the people we really want to help. It makes perfect commercial sense to avoid the clients that sap our time and distract us from the clients that value our contribution. The challenge is to find people that are aligned to your beliefs and get “it” whatever “it” is for you and for them. They are the ones that will champion your cause and refer your services with gusto. They will become your advocates and ambassadors, creating more business opportunities to grow your business. If we try to help everyone, often we help no one.
